Moving Forward

The beautiful month of May delivered gentle rain showers, illuminating the landscape in a (relatively) green hue. Pleasant sounds and smells filled the air once again as spring melted into summer. My newest commitment to help preserve our precious environment is through supporting 4ocean--a growing movement that is dedicated to cleaning the oceans. Every bracelet sold represents the group's pledge to remove one pound of trash from the coastlines. It also serves as a daily reminder for me to be more mindful of waste.

















While I have not yet begun triathlon training (my post-injury goal), I continue to strengthen my mind and body through regular physical activity and meditation. As an added twist to my normal routine, I invested in a few sessions at SymFit PT and Fitness. Conveniently located in Capitol Hill, the studio's fitness system is uniquely designed to prevent injury through the conditioning of neutral spine alignment. This subtle tweak in posture breaks the faulty loading patterns in the neck and low back that cause joint breakdown and pain, thereby ensuring symmetrical and efficient movement.

 

A quiet stretch at the pharmacy encouraged me to spend more time with the vegan crew. Recently discovered spots include the Denver Central Market, Marquis Pizza, Alternation Brewing Company (#76), and urban winery, the Infinite Monkey Theorem. This summer, I plan to further embrace the idea of community through service work.



Having officially closed the "military chapter" of my life, I am ready to move forward in a different direction. Much of my free time this month has been dedicated to studying for the Oregon pharmacist licensing exam--the first major hurdle to chasing my next dream. It's exciting to be in the driver's seat again after nearly two years of allowing someone else to call the shots.
